Is a River Alive?
Indigenous Peoples know the river is alive. We are seeking legal personhood for the Thames River, or as it is known to the Anishinaabe, the Deshkan Ziibiing, translated in English to Antler River.
As a first step toward this goal, we are calling on the Province of Ontario to formally change the name of the river to the original Anishinaabe name: Deshkan Ziibiing.
